Everything to know about Expert centers and the French national ocular cancer network
MélaChoNat
Created over 10 years ago, the National Choroidal Melanoma Network (MélaChoNat) enables all patients in France to access expert centers specialized in uveal melanoma, ensuring the highest standard of care for this rare tumor. Over the years, these centers have also developed recognized expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of all ocular tumors—not limited to uveal melanoma.
Accredited since 2020 by the French National Cancer Institute (INCa), the MélaChoNat network is expected to expand its scope to include conjunctival melanomas. It will eventually be renamed “MELA2C” (2C for Choroid & Conjunctiva).
The network currently consists of several expert centers (“competence centers”) and two national reference centers, located in Paris and Nice. It is coordinated by Institut Curie, with co-coordination provided by Nice University Hospital (CHU de Nice).
