As an international patient, would you like to contact a member of our team for a second opinion? Would you like to receive treatment in Nice? The multidisciplinary team of Departement d'Onco-Ophtalmologie niçois (DOON), made up of doctors from Nice University Hospital (CHU de Nice) and the Antoine Lacassagne Center, is at your disposal. Find out all the steps of your future medical care and administrative formalities.
If you are a foreign patient residing in France and a taxpayer for French social security, this page for non-resident patients does not apply to you. You can make an appointment in the same way as any other resident with social security cover in France, whatever your nationality is.
In order to quickly assess your medical situation and determine whether our multidisciplinary team can provide appropriate care for your case, please send us all your medical records in French or English, along with a summary of your current health status.
A preliminary response will be sent to you by a member of our medical team within 7 days, before requesting any additional documentation or providing you with a treatment proposal. If a complex treatment plan is recommended, an in-person consultation may be offered promptly to refine our care proposal and provide additional explanations regarding the proposed treatment. To facilitate the sending of these documents, please use a secure file transfer system of your choice for large files and send us the download link in the body of the email. You can contact us at the following address for the ophthalmology department: ophtalmologie-consultation@chu-nice.fr
It is common for cases like yours to require joint treatment by the ophthalmology teams at Nice University Hospital and the radiotherapy department at Centre Antoine Lacassagne. In order to provide you with a treatment estimate from both institutions promptly, please send us the following administrative information:
- Photocopy of your ID card or passport
- Date and place of birth
- Address abroad
- Address in France (if you have one)
- Email address
- Phone number
You will quickly receive an estimate from each institution (2 working days). These estimates are complementary and part of the same overall care plan.
Option 1: I am paying my own costs, what should I do?
The total amount indicated in the care estimate must be paid in full by bank transfer no later than eight days before the start of treatment. Payment in installments is not accepted.
If the final invoice is lower than the initial estimate, our institutions will refund the payer within two months after the end of care, by bank transfer only, to the payer’s bank account.
Please remember to provide your bank account details in order to receive a refund.
Option 2: I am covered by a paying institution, what should I do?
Similarly, the total amount indicated in the care estimate must be paid in full by bank transfer no later than eight days before the start of treatment.
Upon request, our teams can provide medical reports and certificates you may need in order to obtain coverage approval from your payer or insurance provider.
Option 3: I am a EU patient and covered by my country's health insurance, what should I do?
Please submit to the hospital the European S2 form 'Authorization for scheduled treatment' provided by your health insurance, along with the signed estimate.
In addition to the required identity documents, you will need your valid European Health Insurance Card and proof of address.
Can I get assistance from an interpreter?
Throughout your treatment, you can access our qualified interpreter services free of charge, available by phone 24/7 or on site in all languages. Simply make the request through your physician’s medical secretary before your appointments.
Where can I pray?
Good medical care also means respecting patients and their beliefs, without this hindering the organisation of treatment. To this end, our hospitals provide a chaplaincy service and multi-faith and meditation areas on its main hospital sites.
Please do not hesitate to contact the medical team for further information.
What happens when my treatment is finished?
At the end of your stay, your discharge will be coordinated between the medical team, for post-hospital follow-up, and the administrative team (invoices, insurance certificate, etc.). Your physician will give you the schedule of follow-up appointments as well as prescriptions for any future exams.
To ensure continuity of medical care, you will be given your liaison letter (full medical report). Depending on the case, follow-up may be in your home country or alternating with our centers. It is important to contact your referring physician in your home country when you return home.
